Flow Tech Named 8th Best Place to Work in Connecticut

“Some companies just get it right!” The Best Places to Work Awards honor companies who rank highest in employee satisfaction as determined by a survey administered nationally. We’re proud to be recognized by Hartford Business Journal as the 8th best place in the “2024 Best Places to Work in Connecticut!”

Learn how our culture earned us the win.

Sixteen Flow Techians attended the HBJ’s “Pure Imagination” Awards event to accept the award on 3/7/24.

The Research

Hartford Business Journal partnered with Workforce Research Group (WRG), a third-party research firm specializing in employee engagement and satisfaction, to collect, analyze and judge the data collected for the selection process. WRG’s program is built to identify employers who are doing things right and creating cultures that make employees proud to be a part of them. They give recognition and provide companies with valuable feedback from their teams.

The Process

We completed an in-depth questionnaire about our company, and all employee-owners completed an employee feedback survey. Based on the employer assessment and employee responses we were vetted against the national results, and compared to other Connecticut companies (small/medium). The best of the best were selected as the 2024 “Best Places to Work in Connecticut.”

What Puts the “Flow” in Flow Tech?

Employee Owned Culture

We are fortunate to work alongside each other! Everyone at Flow Tech embodies our core values. These are the principles that guide our actions and serve as cultural cornerstones. We’re all passionate about helping our customers and each other.

We can thank Flow Tech’s former owner, Rich Harper, for laying the foundation of our culture and exploring ESOPs when he began thinking of retirement. In September 2021 we became 100% employee owned ensuring that everyone who contributes to the success of Flow Tech shares in the reward through earned stock in the company.

Our employee owned culture promotes innovative ideas, improves processes, and contributes to everyone’s job satisfaction. We work hard to get the job done yet we’re flexible and understanding of work/life balance.

Which means children are welcome!

In addition to intangible benefits we also offer:

  • 100% coverage of medical insurance premiums

“Pure Imagination”

The Hartford Business Journal hosted the Best Places to Work in Connecticut awards program inspired by the Willy Wonka movie. Attendees were encourage to dress with “Pure Imagination” at the event. Flow Tech rose to the challenge and our Director of Marketing, Nichole Petersen, imagined and created the perfect solution to stay on-theme but not make anyone feel uncomfortable.

Each employee was outfitted with a candy-inspired accessory. Men wore candy pattern, or swirly color ties, along with brightly colored fedora hats in which Nichole hand glued brightly colored feathers and real lollipops. The ladies looked ready for Derby day with fun feathered fascinators, again adorned with lollipops. From there our employee-owners took the liberty of adding additional items such as sun glasses, candy tattoos and jewelry.

Although we dressed to impress and embodied a “classy candy” vision, we were not selected as the team spirit competition winner. That went to fellow employee-owned firm, Downes Construction. Congrats on your “pure imagination!”

Fellow ESOP, Downes Construction Company won the team spirit award for the best “Pure Imagination.”
